Get to know Dr. Audrey Lee and her sports background as athlete & coach.
A fitting Mothers Day release! Kim Barnes was finally revealed to the stand up paddle racing world as the force that she is, taking first place in the Carolina Cup after years of flirting with top honors (10th overall amongst all Graveyard competitors!) Kim shares her thoughts about how the race unfolded, her preparation and balancing being a top-tier SUP athlete with two kids and a full time job. While the woman's race was, without question, the closest of the day, and incredibly competitive, the men's race had a distinctly different vibe. Michael Booth blew the doors off the competition with one of the most dominant performances ever at a Carolina Cup. Meanwhile a strong group vied for the remaining podium results with Eri Tenorio breaking away for a second place line crossing, followed by Aaron Sanchez, Danny Ching and Bodie Von Allmen. But the race was not over. Shortly before the awards ceremony, it was revealed a protest had been filed against Eri Tenorio and Aaron Sanchez for illegally riding boat wake. Tenorio, who rode a wake for 1:45 (at about 8mph) was penalized 5:55 and Sanchez, who had a shorter ride was penalized 3:10 - effectively moving them to 4th and 5th place respectively. In the second half of this episode, Matt and Adam take a long look at the events that unfolded and, more important, the rules in effect and their application. Lots of controversy on the day and we aim to present hours of conversation with the affected participants, long-time racers and directors and our own observations to help learn from this event. As is often the case, you can visit our friends at Total SUP' Facebook page, where they have coverage of the event from 4/30/23

We're jazzed about the race season kicking off! Matt and Adam spend this episode covering some predictions for the upcoming Carolina Cup, ruminating on a cool relationship (and fun recent rivalry) with a rising young gun and one of SUP's original (and current) stars. Plus, more details about the November '23 USA SUP Championship and a peek into the puzzle that is National Rankings. Join us!
In this episode, Flying Fish Board Co. boss and shaper, John Meskauskas (USA SUP founding member), joins us to talk about the art and science of designing boards to cope with the realities of SUP racing. It's an in-depth conversation that is must watch for anyone who has: contemplated a board, looked at a board, paddled a board, purchased a board or may do any of the above in the future. From rocker profile, to volume to drain holes and widths, and a humbling moment in Hood River... we cover it all. We jump right in by covering the growing and competitive scene in the Jupiter/Stuart, Florida area, where Flying Fish Board Co. is located, and then onto the work that goes on in the shop aka "The Fish Tank".
In this episode we have The Great Sprint Debate! Plus, an insider's view of Last Paddler Standing. Adam, Matt and Kristen have a spirited debate about the role of sprinting in stand up paddle racing. It's a spirited discussion as the gang dives into the pros and cons of sprinting, in the context of the November '23 USA SUP Championships in Long Beach, CA.
